(More customer reviews)The quality of this bag is excellent; however, Amazon's PHOTOGRAPH shows a roof-top storage bag attached to the roof rack, while this larger bag was designed to be oriented from side-to-side on a REAR RACK THAT PROJECTS FROM THE TRAILER HITCH.
To use it on our roof rack I had to cut a plywood platform for it to sit on, and run additional straps over the top. Since one orients things lengthwise on top of a car, the front end of the bag does not look like the one in the photograph---the front end actually has a wind-catching flap across it! Our 2,800-mile trip included a lot of stops to apply more and more bungie cords (to stop the flapping). At least the dogs enjoyed the many stops. For the trip back we've installed a luggage-securing bungie NET over it. The BAG itself is EXCELLENT!

(More customer reviews)I just got back from vacation two days ago and needed to use this cargo bag since we brought along an extra person.It was nice to have because the SUV was full since we were gone for over a week, but I was pretty nervous the entire time it was in use.

First, while putting it on, I got concerned when the zipper fell off with zero effort.The straps went on pretty effortlessly but I made sure to leave enough slack to add a boy scout knot just in case.

On the way up the bag started making unexpected wind noise and I was starting to get concerned that it wouldn't even make it up there.It did survive but I had noticed that the zipper decided to half-way undo itself.Luckily, nothing was lost but it could have been much, much worst.

While at our destination, I just took it off the rack.As I came home I threw it back up there with the same boy scout knots.But when I got home I noticed the inside had all come apart.There were black flakes EVERYWHERE.In frustration I just emptied it, took it off my rack, and threw it in the garbage.

I would not recommend this product.The price is a lot better than most of the other options out there but I think this is a case of You-Get-What-You-Pay-For.So, buyer beware!

I like 1) Fold and store in the nylon carry case 2) Solid design, securely attaches to roof (Mine had side bars only) 3) Keeps things dry, no problem 4) Looks as good as a car top carrier can

Limitations 1) The zippers are hard to pull closed.As long as the two halves are aligned the zipper is easy.But if the bag is stuffed and you counting on the zipper pulling the two halves together forget about it.2) Ford Escape is 1.5 inches too narrow for the bag to fit between the side bars but it works OK nonetheless.

I did not like 1) Packing in a hot sun. The bag is black and rubber and it gets very hot. 2) Storage bag looks cheap and that it's seams won't last long. 3) No clips to neatly secure loose strap ends.Had to spend too much time in the sun securing loose ends to avoid them flapping in breeze and getting frayed.

Pointers 1) Clean the top of the car each time before placing rubber skid pad down2) The rubber skid pad keeps the bag from sliding off the car.3) The straps keep it from blowing off 4) The bag is more shallow in the front than the rear. Pack it full enough to attain that shape and the aerodynamic shape really does keep the noise down 5) Bring along a small step stool to reach the top unless you don't mind standing on the door jams and rear tires. 6) Use the cross straps to cinch down on the folded up top when wrapping it up for storage. Fits easier into to storage bag. 7) Keep the straps perpendicular to the side bars. 8) Use black spring clips to secure loose strap ends 9) Avoid closing plastic buckle ends in car door. If they crack they are useless.

Shipping 1) Mfc in CA.I needed it within a week. I emailed them and they offered to ship two day for an extra charge.

(More customer reviews)We drive a Honda Civic and have a Yakima roof rack with two bike trays, and were looking for a smaller "soft side" carrier to fit into this space.This cargo carrier fit nicely inside this space and appears easily adaptable to spaces that are not exactly 34" by 34".The carrier material is sturdy and coated on the inside with a PVC coating.The zipper is a double pull zipper, which is nice because it can be adjusted to open from one side for easy access to the contents inside.The straps are long - almost too long, in fact, so we may end up cutting off the excess strap material.The carrier is advertised as water resistant and not waterproof, and so our plan is to primarily use the carrier for things that we don't mind getting wet, and then pack other items inside a garbage bag first before putting them inside the carrier.We used the carrier for the first time this past weekend on a camping trip and it worked great!We put our folding chairs inside, along with some Thermarest pads and pillows.We drove at speeds up to 70 mph and did not notice any more noise than what we usually hear with the roof rack.We did manage to drive through a TREMENDOUS rainstorm lasting 10-15 minutes.Some of the contents inside the carrier did get a bit damp, but the pillows that were stored in a garbage bag were completely dry.Overall, we are very happy with this product and would highly recommend it!!

Lund 601016 Soft Pack Roof Top Bag Review

(More customer reviews)After reading good reviews of this bag we bought it to put on our 2006 Grand Prix GT for a week long camping trip for a family of 4. This car has no luggage rack and a slightly sloping roof that has little purchase for the included roof anchors. After going about 10 miles (still in town) it was apparent that the included hardware was not going to be sufficient because the anchors kept popping lose from the door frame. A quick stop to a W**Mart and picking up a set of cam buckle tie downs made this no longer a problem.
Keeper 5105 10' Cam Buckle Tie-Down, 300 lbs. WLL (900 lbs. break strength), 4 Pk, i-Pack You attach the end outside the passenger compartment and then feed the rest of the strap through the passenger compartment and attach on the other bag strap outside the car and shutting the strap in the door frame. Using this essentially makes the bag one with the car with no roof rack needed.

As for the bag itself...

It is large. We packed 4 Coleman Cambridge 30-Degree Rectangular Size Sleeping Bag (Tall) (in vacuum bags), a 13'x13' folding gazebo, a Coleman Family Dome Tent, two Big Bubba Travel Chair - Black, a PORTABLE FOLDING SPORTS CAMPING ARM CHAIR w/cup holder, a Coleman H/T Two-Burner InstaStart Propane Stove, a gym bag stuffed with clothes and 4 coats in vacuum bags.

The bag worked great going to Yellowstone and it was easy to pack. On the way back we hit 17 hours of thunderstorms at interstate speeds (worst rainstorms I have ever driven through). MINIMAL water entered the bag but you would be advised to put everything that can't get wet in a plastic bag.

During the beginning of the trip the wind noise that the straps made was unbearable and we were considering canceling our vacation. Then I got an idea and stopped at another W**Mart and grabbed a package of POLY TEX STR10 "BLACK STALLION" TIE DOWN RUBBER STRAP - 10"(PACK OF 10). I put one between the front strap and the rear strap on each side and the noise pretty much DISAPPEARED. This is not a fault in the bag design, it's simply a matter of not enough lateral tension being applied to the strap to keep them from vibrating in the wind. All bags like this will do this if you do not take this step.

Conclusion: If you do not have a roof rack but want to haul a lot of stuff and are willing to spend a few more dollars on the tie downs and rubber straps this is a great bag and I would recommend it. It is also worth noting that a quick hosing off was all that was needed to clean it.
