(More customer reviews)I think Bestop makes a nice quality piece, but I quickly learned that conceptually, the mesh Bimini is just not a smart idea.Driving down the road, the fine mesh really eliminates virtually all air flow from entering the cabin, however the sun still penetrates and beats down on you.As a result, you get significantly hotter than you would with a solid material, and hotter than you would be just having soft top on and windows down.One of the benefits of a Bimini is that you can toss it in the back and throw it on when the skies open, but the mesh top obviously provides no help in that regard.

Again, it is a nice quality unit and does everything it promises to, but I would advise anyone considering a Bimini to go with the solid fabric.

(More customer reviews)The product works okay, and in theory, it is easy to install.However, you need to look at the instructions and parts carefully.There's a chart for vehicles that tells you which screw to use.They package the screws in a way that looks like there are two types, but actually, there are four.I installed one side fine.It then took me 30 minutes to figure out I had the wrong screw on the other side.Silly me, I guess, but I couldn't figure out why one side fit and the other didn't.Thought maybe I got the wrong landing pads.If you have the right parts, its a quick install.

Yakima Bow/Stern Tie Down Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased these tie-down straps with a full rack and canoe kit. The tiedows were very pricey, but they claimed they cam with a protective tube over the ropes to prevent paint scratches.

Let me save you some trouble- Don't bother with these. Get some normal tie-down straps or even some good rope, and wrap them in a towel or cloth. The plastic rope covers scratched the paint on my car very badly, and didn't really offer any other benefit.

The one good feature about these straps is the ratcheting system- When you pull the rope tighter, a ratchet locks it into place until the ratchet lever is pulled. This isn't to say it replaces a good cargo strap, since the rope does tend to come loose, but with some good knot tying, you can get it pretty solid.

Overall, the product quality is as expected, but in the end it was a waste.

I rate things as follows:
1 star - Far below expectations / Completely unsatisfactory

(More customer reviews)I have had the Q-tower system for a number of years, through three different vehicles.All in all a great rack system, except for two items:The cost of the little parts that you need to convert from one vehicle to the other are stratospheric! I really don't mind Yakima making their money on the big ticket items such as towers, boxes, etc. but the little adapter items should be priced more fairly.It seems to me that once you are locked into a Yakima system they fully intend to hose you on the little things.Too bad.Further, the Yakima website is a mess to try and find the specific little items and accessories that they intend on hosing you with!

Some times loaded the roof of my jeep with up to 2 bikes a stacked canoe and kayak next to my Cargo box all at the same time. I'm guessing we put 400 + lbs. It never let me down. So if you dont know much about the Yakima systems all I can say is ya cant go wrong, The best money spent if you do allot of outdoor adventures

(More customer reviews)Was very easy to mount on the Sequoia, and feels pretty sturdy (and watertight).Absolutely no wind noise or rattling could be heard inside the vehicle at 75 MPH.I bought it because the width and height makes it better for carrying family stuff than comparable size Thule or Yakima boxes, though it's not long enough for skis.Low price is a huge bonus.I also like that it opens from the back instead of the side, since on my tall vehicle the easiest way to reach the box is standing on the rear bumper.I looked at the big name boxes, and I can't see how they are worth 2.5x as much.

**UPDATE**Have now taken on a few long trips.It did not seem to affect gas mileage at all, and stayed dry inside through 300 miles of downpour.I have to take it off to fit in the garage, which would be true of any box, but I can get it on or off in less than 10 minutes.I fit 2 carry-on suitcases, 4 sleeping bags, a stroller, a full-frame baby backpack, and a small baby bouncer seat inside.

SportRack Explorer Roof Box Review

First the material it is made of is thin and flimsy. It is certainly not as strong as some of the boxes made from ABS plastic. If you park in the sun for any time the plastic softens to the point where you may have trouble getting the hinges to engage to hold the top up. Another result of the softened plastic is the sagging of the hinge side of the lower portion of the box. This causes the top to sag down slightly reducing the clearance for loading items.

Another issue is the assembly. It was painfully cumbersome, and I am very mechanically inclined. It's definitely a two man job, one to hold the top while the other attaches and tightens the nuts and bolts.

Attaching to my vehicle (04 Dodge Durango) was a pain as well. The height of the vehicle made it challenging enough but attaching the "U" bolts on the hinge side was a real pain. If you have a smaller vehicle like a sedan or a Subaru Outback or something like that it may be easier

But, this thing is huge and holds a lot. We had 2 larger rollaway suitcases, two large duffle bags, 2 sleeping bags and 2 pillows and had room for coats and toiletry bags. It really hold quite a bit. But one of the biggest advantages is has is the price. For the cost of a competing unit from yakithule you can by 5 of these things.

I highly recommend this unit if your budget is tight, especially if you can get someone else to assemble and install it...
